PRO & INTERNATIONAL UPDATE 28jan11

-The 2011 MLL Draft occurred last week. Kevin Crowley '11 was chosen as the first pick in the draft and will go to the Toronto Nationals. Steve Waldeck '10 was drafted last season by the Nationals.


Jody Gage, GM of the Nationals, said about Crowley: "He's an unbelievable midfielder. We just felt he was the best player in the draft... He's a playmaker with great size and can play both ends of the field."


Jordan McBride '11 was chosen in the third round, going to the Rochester Rattlers. Later in the draft, Tom Compitello '11 was chosen by the Boston Cannons and Adam Rand '11 will go to the Toronto Nationals as well.



Jordan McBride '11 was chosen by Rochester in the 3rd round (14th overall). He was only the third attackman taken in the draft.

Adam Rand '11, chosen in the 6th round (31st overall), will join Crowley and Waldeck in Toronto. All three Seawolves formed the faceoff unit that lead the country in winning % for nearly three seasons.

Matt Bellando '14 set the Scots' records in 2010 for career goals (256) and career points (366). Bellando finished his career with 308G, 134A for a grand total of 442 points in four seasons.

Lacrosse will use the turf field at the University Track when complete.


Further, Athletic Director Jim Fiore was quoted in the article, stating that the school’s recent successes have attracted donations, even in a difficult economy. He pointed to an athletics grade-point average that rose from a 2.76 to near a 3.1, a level sustained for the past four years, and the SB's five conference championships in 2009-10 alone.


The latest photos of the construction show that field turf has already been installed. Construction is due to be completed in September 2011.

Early in fall ball of 2010, Cody Vassallo '14 was already one of the best conditioned athletes in the program as a freshman.

-The 2010 Seawolves were awarded their America East Championship rings on 12/11/10. The entire 2010 squad was present, including new alumni Steve Waldeck '10, Chris Gignilliat '10, Mike Sopko '10, Charlie Parr '10, Paul Randazzo '10 and Chris Scott '10.

A celebration of the most successful season in SB Lacrosse history, the event included a lunch, a highlight film, and a ring presentation ceremony. The team was honored at halftime of the Men's Basketball contest against Sacred Heart.


SB Lacrosse was last issued America East Championship rings in 2002, following an 11-7 victory over Albany in the Finals and an NCAA Tournament berth.

As he was such a well-respected member of the national lacrosse community, I am sure I join so many others when I say that we will all miss Ron LaValle greatly."


-SB Athletics also interviewed former Coach John Espey, who stated that "Ron was a terrific coach, but the best thing he did for our program was mentor our student-athletes... and our student-athletes loved him. Ron was a great person and an honorable man."
