-National League Lacrosse reported on the 2011 NLL Draft, which included Kevin Crowley '11 as the first pick. Crowley will be taking his talents to the Philadelphia Wings next season. http://www.nll.com/article.php?id=5170


Kevin Crowley '11 was picked first in both MLL and NLL drafts.

Wings GM and head coach Johnny Mouradian said of
Kevin Crowley '11: "Kevin is going to be a star in the NLL on the floor and we know he will represent the values of our Wings organization in the community... We really like his commitment to develop his game at the highest level. Our coaching staff and players look forward to seeing him on the floor."

Wings President and Co-owner Michael French said of Kevin Crowley '11: "He can play any position on the floor but for us he'll be a great complimentary addition to our offense. He has a proven track record of bringing out the best in his teammates and is another great character addition. We are thrilled to have Kevin on board."



-Jordan McBride '11 was chosen thirteenth in the NLL Draft, going to the Colorado Mammoth.

-John Sproat '90 welcomes his second daughter, Kyla Rei Sproat, born on 9/15/11 in Tokyo, Japan. Mrs. Sproat is doing well. Congratulations John!


-The NCAA interviewed Glenn Dubin '78 on his $4.3M contribution to SB Athletics to build a new weight training facility. Dubin, a lacrosse alum and now CEO of a successful asset management firm, talks about how important SB was to his development. http://www.goseawolves.org/genrel/092111aac.html

-Inside Lacrosse reflected back on its 2010 Laxie Awards, in which Kevin Crowley '11 finished in second place for Breakthrough Player of the Year with 27% of the vote (Scott Rodgers of ND finished with 28%). http://insidelacrosse.com/news/2011/09/13/inside-lacrosse-laxies-looking-last-years-winners

Kevin Crowley '11 also represented Team Canada in 2010, which finished in third place for for 2010 Game of the Year for its championship victory over the USA.

-The Organization welcomes newly found alumni Tom Sammel '87 and Will DeCristoforo '00.

-Total membership is now up to 194 alums, dating back to the 1978 club team.

Assistant coach Brendan Callahan '07 has been promoted to Defensive Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator. Callahan is entering his fifth year coaching at Lehigh.

was named All America after his freshman season at SB. He registered 154 saves and lead the country in both save percentage (.678) and goals against (5.94 per game) en route to a 9-3 record.



A former coach at Brown and Rutgers, Errol Wilson '06 has been named Associate Defensive Coordinator, tasked with coaching goalies, and man down defense. Wilson will also act as coordinator of clinics and camps.

Coach Cassese said Wilson "has a tremendous lacrosse mind and brings with him a wealth of knowledge that comes from working with excellent coaches and mentoring elite players at the Division I level for the past five years."


Recent graduate Tom Compitello '11 was named Assistant Offensive Coordinator and will also run the box on gameday. Compitello will serve as a community lacrosse coordinator.
Coach Cassese referred to Compitello as "the quarterback of an offensive juggernaut at Stony Brook".

, currently on the Boston Cannons roster in the MLL, registered 68G, 78A in his career at SB. Compitello was named All America in 2010 and preseason All America in 2011.

SBU Lacrosse Remembers: Jon Ryan '90 (1969-2001)

-Former team captain Jon Ryan '90, who perished on 9/11/2001, lead the 1990 squad to twelve straight victories in what was the program's most successful season to date.


SB Lacrosse has since retired #28 in memory of Jon Ryan '90.

-The SB Statesman published a feature article on Jon Ryan '90 in April of 1990 on how he was instrumental in a victory over Lehigh University. Coach John Espey said of Jon Ryan '90 "Jon's outstanding defensive play and spirited leadership lead us to one of the most important victories our program has experienced. Jon was a clinic on what we try to teach our players."

-Bob Chavez of IL Indoor covered the WLA's New Westminster Salmonbellies and their appearance the Finals. Bob Chavez said the absence of Kevin Crowley '11 "has the potential to hurt the most; he’s the WLA’s leading playoff points scorer at 37 points (14-23) in just 9 games."

Kevin Crowley '11 scored a goal in the MLL Semifinals in the upset victory over the Denver Outlaws.

-Major League Lacrosse reported on the MLL Championship, in which the Boston Cannons defeated the Hamilton Nationals. Kevin Crowley '11 and Steve Waldeck '10 both started the game for the Nationals, who came up short by a score of 10-9. Steve Waldeck '10 picked up 2 ground balls and got off one shot in the MLL Finals against Boston.

Steve Belanger of Men's Health visited SB Lacrosse last May at LaValle Stadium to do a study on the physicality of the sport and the mechanics of shooting.
