McBride and Rand are the first two SB alumni ever to appear in the MLL Championship game.  The Chesapeake Bayhawks would go on to win 16-6.

Kevin Crowley '11 of the Philadelphia Wings finished the 2012 season with 81 points, three Rookie of the Week awards, and lead the Wings to the NLL playoffs for the first time since 2008.

Defenseman Steve Waldeck '10 will join the Hamilton Nationals for a third season in 2013, which is currently the longest MLL career of any SB alumnus.

Rhys Duch '08 appeared in seven games for the Hamilton Nationals, totalling 7G, 6A, and 8 ground balls.


Steve Waldeck '10 (left) recorded 39 ground balls in twelve games for the Nationals in 2012, and also 2G, 2A.   


 
Kevin Crowley '11 registered a career best 24G, 13A in his second season in Hamilton, ranked 15th in overall scoring.


Jordan McBride '11 scored 29G, 9A in only eleven contests for the Denver Outlaws, including a .468% shooting percentage.  McBride was the 13th leading scorer in the league.


Adam Rand '11 (center) appeared in 14 games for the Chesapeake Bayhawks, winning 185 of 345 faceoffs (54%) and picking up 55 ground balls (10th best in the league).

-The Dubin Family Athletic Center opened this past summer and varsity teams are now training in the brand new state of the art facility:


The recently completed Dubin Family Athletic Center faces out on to LaValle Stadium.


Lacrosse alumnus Glenn Dubin '78 donated $4.3M to construct the facility, which is to be used by all varsity sports teams on campus:


The 8,000 square foot Dubin Family Athletic Center boasts 37,280 pounds of cutting-edge strength & conditioning equipment, an audio visual system for filming and training, plyometrics, a nutritional center, office, storage, and an outdoor patio area.

-SB Lacrosse held its annual intrasquad scrimmage on Homecoming 2012:

Following the scrimmage, Coach Nagle invited alumni to address the team in a career seminar.  Volunteers Jeff Capri '89, Will Imhof '96, Tristram Gillen '02, Matt Campolettano '02, Frank Barile '02, and Sean Chamberlain '07 spoke to the team and shared their experiences:


Tristram Gillen '02 addresses the varsity during the career seminar.  A former college lacrosse coach, Gillen is currently a professional sales training manager.

The alumni universally stressed the importance of academics, internships, and building a network of contacts.


Will Imhof '96 spoke about his experiences as a teacher and coach.  Imhof is a former player, team captain, and also coached SB Lacrosse.

The alumni also advised the team on what mistakes to avoid, how to build a network, and how to create opportunities.


Jeff Capri '89 finished his degree in Health Sciences and became a teacher and a restaurateur.

-Erika Karp of the Times Beacon Record reported on a plan to redevelop downtown Stony Brook, including the one mile strip of Route 25A that abuts the main campus near the train station.

President Stanley said: "I think it's something that's been missing from the campus probably since the beginning. To have community involvement right from the beginning, I think is critical to get this kind of thing happening."

The plan to redevelop Route 25A is intended to connect the university and the surrounding community, including bringing in new businesses, restaurants, offices and retail stores.

On 8/25/12, Jordan McBride '11 and the Denver Outlaws take on the Long Island Lizards at 1pm.

Jordan McBride '11 (black) is currently the sixth leading scoring attackman in the MLL with 29G, 9A in only eleven contests.

Also on 8/25/12, Adam Rand '11 and the Chesapeake Bayhawks take on the Boston Cannons at 4pm.

Adam Rand '11 (#10) scooped up 55 ground balls so far on the season, winning over 54% of his faceoffs.

Ryan Bitzer '17 (right) was named Team MVP in both lacrosse and basketball, and also Riverhead News Review's Athlete of the Year. He is the eleventh member of the Class of 2017 so far.


-Joe Werkmeister of the Riverhead News Review interviewed head lacrosse coach Victor Guadagnino on Ryan Bitzer '17, who said of Bitzer: “His field vision is fantastic... not a big verbal guy, he’s a doer. Point guard Ryan Bitzer '17 is also lettered in basketball, garnering Team MVP honors as a junior. Bitzer was also named to the LI Basketball Best Players on Long Island Honor Roll.

In 2011, as a junior, Ryan Bitzer '17 lead the league and division by throwing for 1705 total yards (190/game) and 11 touchdowns.

Head coach Leif Shay said of Bitzer: "We always knew he was good. … He’s so calm under pressure, and his poise is his greatest attribute.
